A Nasty Spill....

Preparing for race #2 at Coleridge Speedway seemed to be going well. Gavin was excited, the kart was ready and we even had a new racer in our group, cousin Hunter! First practice started right on time. 3pm. Gavin wasn't the first class out that day so we anxiously awaited putting him on the line. It is never an easy thing for a mom to do. Gavin was flying around the track, doing just as Ed, Jordan, Jessica, and Uncle Todd had instructed him to.... He had passed several young folks and a couple on the outside... He and #9 were working hard and had already been out in the grass once...

All of a sudden Gavin went to pass #9 on the outside again and both of them went up the track. Gavin hit the haybale's and was ejected out of his kart as it flipped several times down the track. When we reached Gavin he was shaken up and complaining of back pain. Such a nasty spill along with back pain got Gavin a ride in the ambulance to Randolph Hospital for lots of x-rays and a couple CT scans as well.

By the grace of God he had no fractures and was only slightly sore the next day.

The folks at Coleridge and Randolph hospital did an EXCELLENT job!

While lying on the back board we were joking Gavin about getting back in the kart.. I said to him, "Gavin, if we can get you back to the track by 7:30 you still want to race" (obviously kidding) Gavin with a very serious face says to me, "Mom, I don't want to race tonight, but we are still going to 1/4 midgets on Friday right?", I say, "right" shaking my head.... I guess once it is in your blood it is in there for good!

Go Gavin GO!
